The Czech PC market declined by 13.3% in 2013 vs. 2012 and the total volume for PC market was 1.027 Mln. Units. Desktop PCs accounted for ~36% of all units, while notebooks accounted for 64%. Similarly to many other European countries the volume decline was more visible in notebooks (-15.8% decline) vs. desktops with only single digit PC shipment decline of 8.2%. The stronger decline in notebooks continues to be more driven by weaker consumer demand, as users are spending money on different tablets and smartphones. The adoption of new convertible and detachable form factors continues to be quite niche due to relatively high prices vs. value notebooks and still limited product availability in retail. Both of those factors should improve in 2014, so we will see faster adoption of new touch-enabled devices with Windows 8.1.
In terms of leading vendors we had some changes at the top, as Lenovo became #1 PC provider in 2013 overtaking HP. The leading 3 vendors are Lenovo, HP and Acer in the respective ranking order. Lenovo’s market share is close to 22% now and its positions continue to expand rapidly. The company’s strong performance was driven by success in mobile PCs (every 4th mobile PC sold in 2013 was Lenovo-branded). On contrary, HP’s strength is coming from strong performance in desktop space, especially in business and enterprise segments. The 4th position in the market belongs to ASUS and 5th to Dell. Between them top 5 vendors control 72% of all PC shipments in Czech Republic.
